Bomb threat emails trigger security at 3 prominent schools
Published on:

Three prominent Delhi schools received bomb threat emails on Thursday morning, triggering large security deployments and the second major scare in the Capital in three days. The British School in Chanakyapuri, Modern School on Barakhamba Road, and Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri all reported near-identical emails warning of explosives on their campuses. Police said extensive checks have so far found nothing suspicious.

The threat led to the immediate evacuation of students and staff. Bomb disposal teams, dog squads and fire department units reached the schools within minutes. Police cordoned off the premises and began building-by-building searches. Parents were informed quickly, leading to anxious crowds gathering outside the gates.

Delhi Police confirmed the email threat at Sanskriti School. “A bomb threat email was received this morning. Nothing suspicious has been found after the search. Police personnel are present on the campus,” the statement said. Similar operations were conducted at The British School and Modern School.

This is the second major bomb scare in Delhi this week. On Tuesday, four district courts and two CRPF-run schools received threats after an unknown caller claimed explosives had been planted. Police later said those threats also turned out to be hoaxes. The back-to-back incidents have pushed security agencies to raise their alert level across the Capital.

Officials said Thursday’s emails had similarities with earlier threats, but they are yet to confirm if the sender is the same. Cyber teams have begun tracing the source of the messages. Officers said the tone and wording suggest an attempt to trigger panic rather than a credible threat, but they are not taking chances. Searches are continuing even after initial rounds cleared the campuses.

At The British School, security checks covered classrooms, auditoriums, playgrounds and parking areas. The dog squad conducted multiple rounds. Fire officials scanned all storage spaces and service areas. Similar sweeps were carried out at Modern School and Sanskriti School. All three institutions remained shut for the rest of the day.

Parents waiting outside said the situation was tense. Many praised the schools for quick evacuation. Some questioned why repeated threats were circulating this week. Several said the authorities must identify the source to prevent more disruptions. Teachers said students were calm during the evacuation and were moved out of class by class.

Police sources said the earlier threats to district courts and CRPF schools had also generated citywide alarm. Officers said that the incident involved a phone call to the PCR from a man claiming bombs had been planted at multiple locations. Searches continued for hours, and nothing was found. Investigators are looking into links between Tuesday’s calls and Thursday’s emails.

Senior officers said they are increasing checks at sensitive institutions. Schools in the central and New Delhi districts have been asked to review their security protocols. Many have placed staff at entry gates and stepped-up ID checks for visitors. Police patrols have also been increased in the areas around major schools.

Officials said hoax threats strain resources and endanger public safety because forces must respond as if each alert is real. They said this week’s pattern shows deliberate attempts to disrupt daily life. Investigators are now focusing on email trails, VPN use and possible imitation of earlier threats.
