The bodies of two Delhi University students, who drowned in a lake near Surajkund, were fished out by Naval officials and Faridabad Police on Thursday. Victims identified as Vivek and Allen John were residents of Vaishali in Ghaziabad and had come there on Wednesday for a picnic on their two-wheelers, with four other friends.
The police said the incident occurred around 11:30 am, when they were standing near the lake when one of the friends — Vivek slipped into the lake. Allen, in a bid to hold Vivek, stepped into the water, but met with the same fate as Vivek.
Vivek and Allen were doing BCom and English Honours from Delhi University. All the six friends were residents of the same locality. Some of their friends had told them about the lake which is about three kilometres from Surajkund.
Four students, who had witnessed the accident, have been identified as lokesh, Saurabh, Gautam and Avinash. The families of Vivek and Allen reached Faridabad to learn more about the incident from police. The incident once again reminded all of the death of Gaurav, a resident of Delhi, about two years ago in the same lake near Surajkund.
