Forty two-year-old Haryana-based eye specialist, Dr Sandeep Sharma had completed his ophthalmology from Ukraine and was running his eyecare centre in Jind, Haryana. Five years ago, he came to the Capital to run his real estate business in Vasant Kunj area. Sharma was staying in a farmhouse at Mehrauli. By forging documents, he duped several banks in Gurgaon and Delhi. He has been netted by Delhi Police and his bluff caught after he allegedly duped Punjab National Bank of around Rs 1 crore after submitting fake documents to procure car loans for luxury cars.
The arrest was made on Sunday night following a complaint by assistant general manager of Punjab National Bank branch at Mall Road. Investigations reveal the accused is a shyster. Police have recovered an Audi from his possession. Investigators are now looking for one of his associates, Vikram Sharma, who is on the run and are trying to ascertain his involvement in other cases as well.
Police said the complainant Bhagirath Ram Choudhary told police that the accused persons approached the bank for car loans on August 13 claiming to be directors of M/s Merryland Hospitals and Orbit Diagnostic Centre Private limited. They were operating out of Green Avenue in Vasant Kunj. “They obtained a loan of around Rs 1 crore from the bank after submitting forged collaterals. They initially submitted the RC documents of a Gurgaon-based car dealer but further scrutiny revealed the documents were hoax,” the officer added.
Facts came to the notice of bank officials only after they disbursed the loan. During verification, bank authorities discovered the RCs tendered for Audi and Volkswagen Polo were from Chandigarh Authority and Kaithal respectively. The complainant later approached police and a case was registered under Sections 420, 468, 471 and 34 of IPC at Timarpur police station of North Delhi.
