Days after the alleged attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, a proposal was moved by the Delhi Government to bring the Delhi Police under State control. However, terming the Government's move  without substance, the Delhi Police officials reiterated that they always support the Delhi Government on implementation of Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) and whenever any such report has been received, necessary legal action has been taken and Delhi Police had brought down the crime rate in City.

The Government on Monday in a one day session of Delhi Assembly targeted Delhi Police for their negligence and incapable of curbing crimes in Capital under centre government.

Talking to The Pioneer Anil Mittal, Public Relation Officer (PRO), Delhi Police said whatever blames were put on city police are without facts.

"There is a major decline in crimes in Delhi as the crime has declined from the year 2016 to 2017 by 20.76 per cent and from 2017 to 2018 there is a further decline by 11.46 per cent.

Dacoities are down by 38.24 per cent and robberies by 20.07 per cent. Snatchings incidents have also dropped by 21.56 per cent," said Mittal.

"In the alleged incident of attack on CM, Delhi Police has taken legal action and further investigation of the case is being conducted professionally and expeditiously as per law," the PRO.

"It is incorrect to say that Delhi is unsafe for its inhabitants, particularly women, children and senior citizens.

Delhi Police is most sensitive towards such citizens and we take special care while dealing with such matters," said the PRO.

"Delhi Police holds regular self-defence camps to instill a sense of confidence in women and also holds sensitization camps for school-going children.

This year alone, 1279 such camps have been held till October and around 2.5 lakh girls have been trained in self-defence.

As far as security of senior citizens is concerned, our Beat staff regularly visits senior citizens and this year alone around 4.75 lakh visits have been made by our Beat staff," said PRO.

"All important cases are investigated promptly and the success in detection of heinous cases is 88.42 per cent, in dacoity 100 per cent and robbery 85.04 per cent. Detection in rape is 91.11 per cent and kidnapping for ransom 100 per cent," Mittal added.
