Crediting booth-level workers for the impressive win in the recently concluded Delhi municipal corporation elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah said that BJP’s victory in civic polls is the foundation for the upcoming Assembly polls. “The victory marks the end of anarchy,” Shah said while addressing the newly elected councillors and party workers the Civic Center on Tuesday.
Reacting on the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s contention on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) he said that the mandate of the national Capital is the nation’s mandate. “It establishes once again that the people of India are firmly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is their stamp of approval on the Modi Government’s works,” Shah said.
BJP president was addressing a convention of the BJP workers here to celebrate the party’s success in the recent municipal polls where it retained control of all the three civic bodies, decimating the AAP and the Congress.
Taking a dig at Kejriwal, he added that no matter what the Delhi Chief Minister believes, the victory has got nothing to do with EVMs. “This is the victory of the BJP’s booth-level workers,” he said.
Kejriwal has been alleging that the EVMs could have been tampered with to favour the BJP.
Shah did not elaborate on the “anarchy” jibe. However, relentless feuds and acrimony with the BJP-led Centre have marked the tenure of the AAP Government, which stormed to power in 2015, and he may well have been referring to the tussle.
Shah also said Kejriwal should meet his party’s booth-level workers to know the real reason behind its big win in the MCD polls.
He lauded the untiring work of the booth-level workers for the BJP’s return to rule the three municipal corporations in the national Capital for the third time on the trot, winning 181 of the total 272 wards.
“Kejriwal ji said the BJP won because of EVMs. But if he wants to know the real reason for this victory, he should meet our booth-level workers,” Shah added further.
In the run-up to the MCD polls last month, Kejriwal had launched an attack on the Election Commission, accusing it of helping the BJP win the elections.
The AAP national convener had also objected to the use of EVMs brought from Rajasthan in the MCD polls and said that the Election Commission had become ‘Dhritarashtra’ with the only motive to help son ‘Duryodhana’ (Bharatiya Janata Party).
His AAP had finished second with 48 wards in the MCD poll results announced on April 26. The party leaders had earlier cited an internal survey to claimed that it would win over 200 wards.
