The Bharatiya Janata Party is going full throttle to entreat first-time voters in the Capital and convert them into their vote bank. Taking the lead, BJP leaders are personally writing letters to the voters in the age group of 18 and 19 years in their respective constituencies.
While the leaders have been educating them on the significance of their votes, they are also persuading the youth to vote for the BJP to dislodge the Congress-led Government in the Capital. This, leaders said, is in keeping with BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s idea of encouraging the youth to vote in the crucial elections. Notably, Delhi, which goes to polls this December, has 3.49 lakh first-time voters.
The BJP leader also highlighted the failure of UPA and Congress Government in Delhi and advised them to cast their vote judiciously. “Vote BJP — Defeat Congress — Don’t waste your vote,” the BJP has appealed to voters. BJP Councillor Subhash Arya, through his letter, also raised the issues of spiralling fuel prices, high power and water tariff, skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, including onions, tomato and milk, dwindling economy and increasing crimes against women.
Finger on the pulse of students, he also touched upon the issue of no reservation to Delhi’s students for admission in colleges and universities in the Capital. “The BJP, if voted to power, will ensure reservation to students from Delhi,” the letter further read.
A senior BJP leader said that reaching out to first-time voter is a productive idea and party would direct all the Councillors to follow the same. “Over a dozen Councillors have already consented to write letters to the youth. Within a fortnight, all 155 BJP Councillors will write personally to first-time voters. In Municipal wards, missives will be sent by Delhi BJP office signed by senior leaders or the State unit president,” Arya added.
