The State BJP unit on Wednesday urged the Centre that the Delhi Government should start night taxi service for the women. The party suggested that bookings for the same could be done through a women helpline by utilising Nirbhaya fund established this year.
Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay, general secretary Rekha Gupta and spokesperson Poonam Azad have requested for an exclusive cab service for women from 9 pm to 6 am.
Besides, the Delhi cadre has also formed a committee consisting of party vice-presidents Rajni Abbi, Shikha Rai, Vishakha Shailani and Mahila Morcha President Kamaljeet Sehrawat for taking suggestions on the security of women and ensuring implementation by the Delhi Police and the Government. The Committee will hear the bad experience of working women in various areas of Delhi on Saturday and Sunday and apprise the Government about them.
“Due to failure of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) to discharge its duties, the issues regarding women are raised only when a critical incident happens and no serious action is taken afterwards. It is an irony that the Chairperson of Delhi Women Commission is such a person who enjoys the benefits of the post but does not fight for the issues of women safety,” said Upadhyay.
He further said, “The Congress which has been shedding crocodile tears regarding safety of women for the last few days, should tell the people of Delhi what steps have been taken for the security of women by former Congress MlA and Chairperson of DCW Barkha Singh.”
