BJP to spruce up Delhi's rural areas, unauthorised colonies

Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel on Sunday said the party is committed to development in rural areas and unauthorised colonies that have suffered during 15 years of misrule by the Congress in Delhi. Addressing a protest rally at Jantar Mantar, Goel said, “Whoever forms the Government in Delhi; the BJP will ensure that the interests of Delhiites are protected. In fact, it is because of the pressure built by the BJP that the discoms are being forced a rethink on increasing power tariff again.”

The rally was organised by residents of villages that are part of the ‘O’ Zone in the Capital and was led by BJP legislator Ranbir Singh Bidhuri. As these areas are clubbed with the Yamuna riverbed, no construction work — even in residential areas — is allowed here.

Speaking on the occasion, Bidhuri said, “The Delhi Development Authority, the previous Congress Government in the Capital and the Urban Development Ministry at the Centre have continuously ignored the plight of those living in residential areas here. With no permission for any kind of construction, there cannot be any development here.”

Goel demanded clarity on every aspect of urban planning in the city. “We need to have a proper mechanism in place where there is continuous review of the existing policies to strike a balance between environment protection and requirements of the people. The biggest problem in Delhi is that agencies, which take crucial decisions, are controlled by the Centre and the State Government has failed to take up the cause of Delhiites.”
