BJP to hold music concert to woo young voters

As Delhi gears up for upcoming polls, the Delhi BJP is planning to rejuvenate its youth brigade. The Delhi unit of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha is organising a musical night with Bollywood singer Mika at Talkatora Stadium on Saturday.

As leaders put it, the concert aims at connecting to the youth ahead of the elections as also bringing them to the political mainstream and party’s ideology. Those coming to the concert are being given a membership form to join ‘lotus Youth Power’, an offshoot of the BJYM.

However, the event is set to witness a bursting crowd at the venue as more than double the capacity of the stadium has already been registered for the event. Party sources said, more than 10,000 membership forms have been filled up and the number would further go up. Interestingly, the capacity of the venue is only five thousand. Sources said the entry passes for the concert are priced at Rs 50.

“The program aims at joining youth in the age group of 16 to 35 years as they form the biggest chunk of voters in the country. The idea is to connect to this age-group and infuse new energy and fresh ideas in the party,” said a member of the committee that is looking after the preparations for the event.

Some senior party leaders too said this was the first of its kind effort being made by the party to connect to the youth. As organisers claimed, the members of the ‘lotus Youth Power’ will be involved in socio-economic cultural; though the group will be functioning from 14, Pant Marg, the headquarters of the Delhi BJP.

According to sources, preparations for the event are being done under supervision of the Delhi BJP and the party’s State president Vijay Goel himself has expressed his keen interest in the event. However, there is a section within the party that is against the organisation of such an event to woo the voters and the youth in particular.

“Such an event is against the culture of the BJP. The party has always believed in setting high standards of politics. Mika has often been involved in scandals including the one involving Rakhi Sawant. Inviting a controversial figure like him to target the young generation will send a wrong message. Instead, a person of clean image should have been invited so that they could be a role model for the youngsters,” said a Delhi BJP leader.
