BJP to hold 70 rallies today

Pulling out all the stops to win the support of Delhiites, the BJP has planned 70 rallies on Thursday — the last day of campaigning in the national Capital for the February 7 Assembly polls. Running against time as campaigning ends at 6 pm, the party’s MPs and Union Ministers will hold at least one rally in each of the 70 constituencies in the city. Besides, the party has claimed that its drive —“Selfie with Modi” — has set a record of nearly two lakh selfies being clicked with the Prime Minister.

The party had planned 250 rallies and putting up around 1,000 posters in every constituency. Now, with just a few hours left, the party is leaving nothing to chance and is utilising its full might to counter the growing popularity of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi. “Union Ministers and party’s MPs have been asked to hold at least one rally in the 70 Assembly constituencies,” said a senior party leader.

A member of the party’s IT team said, “The Selfie with Modi app has got the attention of millions of people in Delhi allowing them to get their photo clicked with virtual Narendra Modi. More than 20 mobile kiosks have been installed across 200 places. The augmented reality technology enables anyone to get the selfie clicked using phone with special software installed.”

Eyeing a return to the power after a gap of 16 years, several BJP workers from Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Maharashtra have been camping in the national Capital to campaign for the party. “Tomorrow, we will go out with full strength. Small rallies and roadshows will also be carried out in different parts of the city,” another senior leader said. More than 1.20 lakh booth incharges and ‘panna pramukhs’ have been roped in to campaign and apprise people about BJP’s plans for the city, he added.

Party president Amit Shah had said that the BJP was in direct fight with Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party in this Assembly election. He also said the party would win Delhi polls. Candidates of the political parties and other leaders can campaign till 6 pm on Thursday, 48 hours before the polling day on February 7.
