Much to the respite of trading community in the Capital, the BJP ruled Municipal Corporations have decided to simplify the trade licensing policy.

The traders will no longer have to do the rounds of Government offices for procuring NOC for procuring a license. Instead, they will be able to get the trade license by simply submitting an affidavit. leaders of the three civic bodies said the existing trade licence policy involved a tedious procedure that deterred the traders from obtaining licence. This also resulted in revenue leakage for the corporations.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the MCD leaders chaired by Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel on Wednesday. It was also decided in the meeting to streamline the street vendors in the Capital. "The civic bodies have been asked to look into the problems and challenges faced by the street vendors. There are more than 3.5 lakh street vendors and a majority of them are harassed by the authorities. We will streamline the system so that they are not harassed," said Goel. The BJP president emphasised over the need to extend services at the doorstep.

"We need to do away with inspector and license system. The MCD leaders will look into various procedures and system and find ways and means to ensure that quick, effective and transparent action is taken on all issues," he added.

Meanwhile, former North Delhi Mayor and three-time councillor Meera Agarwal has been appointed as the leader of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation. The post was lying vacant after former leader of House Mahendra Nagpal resigned from the Corporation following his election to the Delhi Assembly from Wazirpur constituency.
