BJP raps Govt's decision to hike ‘Flatted Factories’ rent

Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has condemned Delhi Government's decision to increase the rent of ‘Flatted Factories’ by 180 to 300 times and demanded immediate withdrawal of the hike. Delhi BJP Spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor has written a letter to CM Arvind Kejriwal and demanded roll back of the decision. “To encourage non polluting small and medium scale industries in Delhi a concept of flatted factories on rental basis was visualized and implemented in early 1980's where factory owners had to pay annual maintenance charges and monthly rent on per square metre basis,” he said in the letter. “Till February, 2022 the rent for such factories was `30 per square metre across the city in five industrial zones which has now been irrationally raised by the Kejriwal Government,” he said.

Citing the example, he said that the rent has been raised at Jhandewalan Complex and Okhla Phase III from `30 to`500 per square metre while for Okhla Kiosks it has been raised to `923 an increase of 300 times. For Wazirpur Industrial Area, the rates increased by 100 times.
