BJP raises pitch against Cong 'failures'

Slamming the Congress-led UPA Government for its “insensitivity and callousness”, BJP national president Rajnath Singh on Sunday said that the common man was bearing the brunt of a corrupt and dysfunctional system.

Blaming the Congress for the recent crisis in the country that has seen prices of essential commodities making lives hard, Singh pointed out that the party had never been able to address the problem of poverty. He pointed out that nearly two-thirds of India was still poor after more than 55 years of the Congress’ rule.

“Despite ruling the country for around ten years at a stretch, the Government does not understand how to run a good Government that can tame inflation and corruption. Prices of essential commodities are rising by leaps and bounds while the Government at the Centre seems least bothered about the common man’s daily struggles. The entire machinery is involved in corruption while growth of the country is going down gradually,” said Singh.

Singh said that more than 25 lakh farmers committed suicide between 1995 and 2010 because of the faulty policy of the Government. Promising loans to farmers at zero per cent interest rates if his party comes to power, the senior BJP leader said suicides could be controlled up to a large extent. “As I had earlier introduced farmer’s income and insurance scheme ‘Krishi Aamdani Bima Yojana’ during BJP’s regime, I will restart the scheme after forming the Government in Centre,” he said.

He was speaking at ‘Gramin Aakrosh Rally’ in Bawana on Sunday. In view of the assembly election this year in the Delhi, the Delhi BJP organised a public rally in the rural pocket of the Capital.

Present on occasion were Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel and other senior State party leaders. Singh also charged the Government with shielding the arrested Italian marines who had killed two Indian fishermen last year. He said the case had now become meaningless since they will neither be arrested nor be handed the death penalty.

In his address, Goel said that he will develop villages of Delhi within six months if comes to power. His party will work on overall development of rural areas and will provide electricity and water at cheap rates. “We will reduce electricity and water bills by 30 percent within a month of coming to power. We will revive Chakbandi and will increase numbers of ‘lal Dora’ in the villages. land acquisition rules will be changed so that owners can get the maximum price for their land. Slum-dwellers and poor people will be provided free lPG connection along with two cylinders,” said Goel.
