Blaming the Delhi Government for the poor conditions of water bodies in South Delhi, BJP MP from South Delhi lok Sabha seat Ramesh Bidhuri said he will protest against AAP Government from Saturday.
“Water ponds now resemble garbage dumping sites and are also adding to pollution as there is rampant burning of garbage residue,” said Bidhuri, adding the Revenue department is not paying attention on the revival of dying water bodies despite several meetings with the officials.
“It is absurd, why this Government has such attitude. Water bodies play pivotal roles in ecology and also fulfill the requirement of water during scarcity,” he said. “I have offered them MPlAD fund but they are not willing to listen to me,” he added.
Notably, the Delhi Government has also decided to conduct detailed topographic and hydrographic surveys of all water bodies, drains and rivers in the city for their revival. For this, the Irrigation and Flood Control Department of the Delhi Government has engaged four firms to assist its officials in the exercise.
A senior official said the move is intended to know the exact topography and hydrography of water bodies and also the construction activities in their vicinity. “After the survey, a comprehensive plan will be made to revive water bodies across the Capital,” the Delhi Government mentioned in their official statement in December, 2017.
When asked about this to Bhiduri , the BJP leader replied that he had demonstrated to Government representatives with pictures in several meetings with Rural Development Minister Gopal Rai.
According to BJP leader, water bodies under Delhi Development Authority (DDA) are being well maintained by the agency, however other water bodies namely, Ranpuri water pound, Shiv Mandir water pound in Rajokri and Holi Chowk water body are on the verge of extinction.
“Nearly 25 water bodies in my area are now have become a garbage dumping site and contributing in air pollution, adding, “ There is no hard action on the revival of these water bodies by Delhi Government,” he said.
