Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) senior leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said that the Delhi BJP-ruled East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has given approval to demolish a temple and erect a building in the Muslim-dominated area of Chauhan Banger and suspended 15 AAP councilors over “indecent” behaviour and “obstruction” of the proceedings of the House after they protested against the move.
Bhardwaj said that the BJP is trying to spread hatred among communities so that they can seek votes on the basis of religion in the forthcoming municipal elections.
A board has been put on the hundred year old temple at Chauhan Banger that EDMC has passed the map for construction of a building in place of this temple, Bhardwaj said, adding that the BJP will use this demolition to spread hatred on WhatsApp before the MCD elections in order to polarise votes.
The AAP Councillors questioned and exposed the BJP's conspiracy of breaking temples for electoral gains. They were suspended for 15 days in a blatant abuse of power, Bhardwaj alleged.
The AAP leader said "MCD elections are due in March next year and just like every election, the BJP has started preparing for this one as well. “Whether there be UP elections, Delhi elections of 2015 or the Delhi elections of 2020, the BJP uses the same set of tricks to polarise Hindus against Muslims and Christians. Their strategy is to polarise them to such an extent that they would be able to get votes just on the religious lines,” he added.
