Opposition BJP MlAs were marshalled out of Delhi Assembly on Thursday after they forced three adjournments over supply of contaminated water causing a woman in Naraina to lose her life. As soon as House proceedings began, leader of the Opposition VK Malhotra alleged that a number of people had died due to supply of dirty water.
He accused the Government of “shirking” its responsibility in providing basic amenities to citizens. He alleged that Sundara from Naraina area died on Tuesday at Deen Dayal Upadhayay hospital after drinking impure water. Malhotra moved an adjournment motion and sought discussion in the House on the purported death of the 62-year-old.
The adjournment motion was rejected by Speaker Dr Yoganand Shastri, who said that day-to-day incidents cannot be taken up for discussion in House through the adjournment motion. Since demand by BJP legislators for an adjournment motion was not heeded to by the Speaker, they trooped to the well of the House shouting anti-Government slogans and displaying placards.
The Speaker adjourned the House at 3.15 pm for half an hour. When the House reassembled, BJP members continued with their sloganeering which led to a war of words between Congress and BJP MlA following which they had to be marshalled out of the House.
In her reply, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit clarified that the cause of death of Sundara at DDU was not due to any water-borne disease. Dikshit as DJB chairperson, criticised the Opposition BJP for politicising the issue and misleading people ahead of Assembly polls.
“It has been confirmed from the medical reports that Sundara was suffering from low blood pressure. The likely cause of her death could be septicemia and the possibility of haematological malignancy,” said Dikshit.
