Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) incharge Durgesh Pathak on Thursday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has done a scam of Rs 450 crore by increasing the rates to provide undue benefits to a large slaughterhouse of Ghazipur.
He said that BJP was so blindsided by making money out of butchery that it approved the proposal without bringing it to the standing committee and the house.
According to Pathak, the Ghazipur Slaughterhouse was already facing the heat of huge irregularities, yet BJP approved rate hikes to burden the people of Delhi.
AAP will get the matter investigated as soon as its government forms in MCD.
“We are all aware of how the BJP has converted the MCD into a source of endless and unlimited corruption. In this vien, they have increased the rates of a Ghazipur slaughterhouse without the proper procedure. As per MCD regulations, no rate as such can be increased without having a discussion in the standing committee. If at all the Standing Committee approves the hike in rates then it has to be taken up in the House for discussion and approval. But the BJP bypassed both the provisions and hiked the rate without any formal discussion,” Pathak said.
“By this proposal, this company benefits Rs 450 crore and the burden will come on the people of Delhi. The biggest disgrace in the whole matter is that when the Standing Committee Chairman was asked how could he let it happen? He said he doesn’t entirely remember the issue. Someone from the BJP, who is in power, is trying to benefit this company and taking a big amount of money from this directly,” Pathak said.
“It’s a scam of Rs 450 crore that BJP has done directly in the MCD. Their days are numbered in the civic bodies and when AAP will come in power we will investigate the whole issue properly,” Pathak added.
Reacting on the issue, the BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said that the "AAP" leaders, especially Durgesh Pathak, seem to see municipal corporations even in their dreams and it has become their job to accuse the corporations of corruption.
“When the corporation has increased the money, then it is natural that the account of that money will be done according to the rules, that money will not go in anyone's pocket and in future it will only increase the revenue of the corporation,” Kapoor said.
