BJP declares second candidate list

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday declared its second list of candidates for the Assembly polls even as it left the Nangloi Jat seat in North-West Delhi undecided. Sources said candidate from Mundka Manoj Shokeen might be shifted to Nangloi and Mehrauli candidate Pravesh Verma could be shifted back to his home village of Mundka.

In doing so, the party could pacify the South Delhi Mayor Sarita Chaudhary by nominating her from Mehrauli Assembly Constituency. However, the name of Sher Singh Dagar, who had lost the Mehrauli seat in 2008, is also doing the rounds from this seat. The development comes after a series of protests by BJP workers who were protesting against candidature of Pravesh Verma from Mehrauli terming him an outsider.

Barring Nangloi Jat, the BJP announced the candidates from the remaining seven seats, the names include former Delhi Mayor Rajni Abbi from Timarpur, Chairman of the Standing Committee in North Delhi Municipal Corporation, Ramkishan Singhal from Adarsh Nagar, Guggan Singh from Bawana, Brahma Singh Tanwar from Chattarpur, Jagdish Pradhan from Mustafabad, Rampal Singh from Seemapuri and Dheer Singh Bidhuri from Okhla Assembly constituency. The party has fielded Tanwar again from Chattarpur who had lost to Congress candidate Balram Singh Tanwar in 2008. On the other hand, Bidhuri had recently joined the BJP from NCP with Ramvir Singh Bidhuri. Meanwhile, BJP ally Shiromani Akali Dal on Tuesday also declared the names of its candidates for four seats. According to party, two of its candidates will contest on the party symbol — scales, while the other two will contest on ally BJP’s symbol — lotus.

The SAD candidates are Manjinder Singh Sirsa from Rajouri Garden, Sham Sharma from Hari Nagar Assembly seat who would contest on the party symbol. On the other hand, Harmit Singh Kalka from Kalkaji and Jatinder Singh Shunty from Shahdara seat would contest on the BJP symbol, senior SAD leaders said.
