BJP, Congress slam CM for defending 'corrupt' official

Both the BJP and the Congress on Monday came down heavily on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after his Principal Secretary Rajendra Kumar, along with four other people, was arrested by CBI in a graft case on Monday. While city Congress chief Ajay Maken said that Kejriwal “stands exposed”, Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay said that it was “high time” for the Chief Minister to tell the people of Delhi why he was constantly defending the “corrupt” official.

The Delhi BJP chief alleged that it was clear for a long time that Rajendra Kumar is a tainted official but Kejriwal constantly extended a “blanket of protection” to him and in the process levelled allegations against the Central Government.

“Today, people of Delhi want to know that if the Chief Minister has any qualms about Rajendra Kumar’s arrest in the IT scam, he must tell the people why he first suppressed the tanker scam of Sheila Govern-ment. Does he now hold any reservations on the enquiry into IT scam that took place during Sheila regimeIJ” Upadhyay asked.

Meanwhile, Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken also attacked the CM and said, “After the arrest of his Principal Secretary, Kejriwal stands exposed as he had all through protected the tainted official.”

“Shocked to see how Sisodia was defending tainted Rajendra Kumar! How can there be different standards for corruption for the AAP and other partiesIJ In May 2015, Transparency International warned Arvind Kejriwal on corruption of Rajendra Kumar. This was totally ignored! WhyIJ To gather votes he said, ‘I won’t spare my own children if they indulge in corruption’. Today AAP is desperately defending his Principal Secretary Rajendra Kumar,” Maken said in a series of tweets.

He questioned if Kejriwal has different yardstick for different leaders. “Kejriwal exposed. Transparency Intern-ational had forewarned against his Principal Secretary earlier. Different yardstick on corruption for different leadersIJ” he tweeted.
