Opposition leaders from Congress and BJP have taken up the task of conducting fogging in their locality. While playing a pro-active role in handling the dengue crisis, Delhi Congress president and former Union Minister Ajay Maken also launched his party’s first social initiative by setting up 50 teams of volunteers to carry out a massive fumigation drive to slums, JJ clusters and those areas where dengue menace is intense.
Former BJP MlA Anil Sharma, Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyaya, BJP MlA Vijendra Gupta, have organised awareness campaign and dengue check up camp across the constituency and also provided free check and medicine to the patients.
Political experts said this could be seen as new development in the national Capital politics as Opposition parties are trying to play a constructive role. “This has never happened in the capital politics. This may be seen as impact of Aam Admi Party (AAP) politics in Delhi. Due to constructive opposition, both Congress and BJP are trying to gain their base support,” he added.
Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken on Tuesday said they have bought 50 fogging machines and its volunteers have been sent to sanitise slums, JJ clusters and those areas where dengue menace is intense. Terming these teams as “Dengue Buster Squads”, Maken said they would be working 24 x 7 to check the spread of the dengue.
“Our first priority will be to carry out fumigation drive in slums and unauthorised and resettlement colonies,” Maken said, adding, that in the days to come, his party would intensify the drive. “We have purchased 50 fogging machines worth Rs five lakh. But we will soon intensify our drive. We will also be holding blood donation camps and awareness campaigns about dengue.”
launching a scathing attack on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for neither replying nor acknowledging his letters over public issues like swine flu, reduction in power tariffs, alarming levels of air pollution, and CAG audit of discoms, Maken said such an approach of the CM showed his high-headedness and lack of concern for the welfare of the citizens of Delhi.
The Congress leader said it was high time for the AAP Government and the BJP-led corporations shunned their differences and work for the welfare of the citizens of Delhi, who were battling dengue on a war footing. “I urge the AAP Government to release the remaining funds at the earliest so that the municipal bodies could act fast to check the spread of the deadly dengue disease.”
BJP’s ex MlA from RK Puram seat, Anil Sharma has set up 15 camps to help people get free of cost blood reports on Sunday. Delhi BJP president, Satish Upadhyay, has also launched the drive in Khirki Village and Malviya Nagar with the local councillor of the area on Sunday. BJP’s Vijender Gupta organised campaigns to educate people about sanitation. East Corporation mayor Harsh Malhotra led the drive in Uldhanpur and Shivaji Park
On the other hand, lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has also held a high-level meeting with officials to assess the situation of dengue menace. Jung has also decided to visit Delhi Metro construction sites to see the preparedness in checking breeding larvae. He also directed the DDA to take special care of construction sites to check breeding of mosquito larvae, particularly at construction sites, parks and open spaces. The Northern Railway has been directed to carry out its anti-larval spray around the 150 kms tracks on a constant basis.
