A day before counting of Delhi bypolls in 13 MCD wards, the Delhi BJP has exuded confidence over winning the elections.

Exuding confidence over winning bypolls, Satish Upadhyay said, “The BJP has regained the confidence of the people of Delhi and in these civic by- elections we will get the largest vote share and our performance will be the best.”

Delhi BJP secretary Ashish Sood said, “For the BJP, all the municipal elections are important. We were able to stop the AAP’s surge in the university elections after AAP’s victory in Assembly polls. This election on 13 wards of MCD will show whether AAP’s move to allocate Rs 526 crore on publicity will work or not.”

He, however, added that there is no link of these bypolls with the upcoming 2017 MCD elections. “Both the elections are two different ball games,” Sood said.

Vinod Kumar Binny, who defected from AAP and joined BJP, is contesting from Khichripur. Sudesh Tokas, wife of a former councillor, is the candidate from Mehrauli. The son of BJP leader lakhi Ram Sharma, Nitin Sharma, has also got a ticket. From Ballimaran, the party’s old-hand Nitin Tiwari is contesting the bypolls. Many party workers, who have been active at the district-level and held posts in district committees, are also contesting the bypolls.

The BJP gave tickets to three of its former MlAs and family members of a few party workers.

The three former MlAs are Mahendra Nagpal, who are contesting from Wazirabad ward, Krishan Gehlot, who are contesting from Nawada, and Jitender Singh Shunty from Jhilmil. “People of this ward are maintaining silence, but a large amount of support is with the BJP. It is a BJP stronghold and we don’t see a competition with the Congress,” said Shunty.
