Advocating relaxation in the cut-offs for students belonging to Delhi for admission to Delhi University (DU), State BJP chief Vijay Goel on Tuesday announced his plans to improve higher education here.
Releasing a report ‘Delhi Declaration 2013’, the BJP leaders slammed the Government for the deteriorating state of affairs in the field of higher education and proposed measures to improve it when the BJP comes to power. “We suggest a provision for two to four per cent relaxation in cut-off marks for admission to undergraduate courses in DU, whether they are domiciles of Delhi or not. The objective of this measure is to provide relief to those students who do not get admission to DU and are forced to go out of the city and spend exorbitant amounts in private colleges,” said Goel addressing a Press conference held at the Constitution Club on Monday.
In a bid to enhance the quality of higher education, Goel also suggested opening of branches of DU’s top colleges, like St Stephen’s, Hindu, lady Sri Ram College and others in neighbouring States. “BJP has plans to open a new online university in the Capital as online education is one of the fastest and most convenient ways of acquiring higher education worldwide. In addition, we propose to link higher education with skill development, to make education employment-oriented,” he added.
lashing out at the Government, Goel said that the Congress lacks the right intentions to work for the development of the city.
