BJP alleges 'irregularities' in medical exam

Opposition leader Vijendra Gupta and two other BJP MlAs — OP Sharma and Jagdish Pradhan —on Sunday met Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) chief M K Meena and filed their written complaint, alleging “irregularities” in the medical exam and counselling process of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha (GGSIP) University, which the varsity refuted.

“There is allegation of grave irregularities in the conduct of the medical exam and counselling process by the University. The entire episode points to quid pro quo by the University to favour certain candidates over others and puts a huge question mark on the entire admission procedure. Hence, it needs to be thoroughly investigated,” wrote the BJP MlAs in the letter to the ACB Chief.

They said the University allegedly changed results of its medical entrance exam “overnight”, just a few minutes prior to the time at which detailed schedule for counselling of MBBS programme was supposed to be notified.

However, the University refuted the allegations, saying that admission to its all courses is done through transparent system.  “These allegations are totally baseless. University has a transparent system to conduct procedure for admission to its all courses,” GGSIP University Public Relations Officer Nalini Ranjan said.

Raising questions about the way certain candidates were allowed to check their OMR sheets after the results were declared, Gupta said the admission brochure clearly states that no request for rechecking, re-evaluation, reassessment or scrutiny of OMR sheet will be entertained.

“Why were only a few candidates allowed to inspect OMR sheets and why other students not informed about itIJ Why the University did not notice the mistakes before declaring results in the first placeIJ Can a University change the results overnight declared by it three weeks beforeIJ” he asked.

Earlier, Gupta had tried to raise the issue in the Assembly. Meena assured the BJP MlAs that he would look into the matter.
