Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken hit out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and leaders of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) for their “air-conditioned dharna politics”, leading to stalemate in the national Capital.
Kejriwal is trying to find an escape route as he has done nothing in the last three and a half years. He also appealed to both the parties to resolve the impasse at the earliest, Maken said.
He said the both the party have let down the people as issues like water and power shortage and severe air pollution has made the life of the people miserable and they are busy in staging dharnas.
Maken also said that the the Congress has ruled the city for15 years and delivered on its promises under the present constitutional setup. Even the Congress Party successfully executed major development works during the BJP reign at centre in 1998-2004. “Despite it, the development including power reforms, conversion of entire public transport system into CNG, construction of various flyovers, initiation and completion of large-scale metro connectivity, development of Sonia Vihar water treatment plant were done without any obstacle and excuse,” he added.
He further said that Kejriwal is desperately trying to cover-up his governance failures by blaming the administrative setup of Delhi and non-co-operation by the bureaucracy.
Maken said that the Chief Minister being a former bureaucrat is well aware of the constitutional framework of Delhi. He said that as per Article 239AA of the Constitution of India, Delhi is a Union Territory and accordingly land, law & order and police are subject matters which fall under the domain of the Central Government while matters relating to education, transport, environment, sewage etc remain with the elected Government, which is currently headed by Delhi CM.
