Ahead of Kanhaiya Kumar’s release the discussion in JNU on Thursday was: What will ‘toothless’ Kanhaiya Kumar sayIJ

From officials in JNU administration to students, everyone “discussed” High Court’s order.

“Kanhaiya is toothless now. He can’t say anything…the High Court has strictly given a judgement which clearly indicates he should not be very active on campus,” said one student. However, JNUSU vice president Shehla Rashid Shora said people are interpreting the judgement like every other person except Kanhaiya is free to do anti-national acts.

A senior official said now that Kanhaiya is released, it will not be “wise” for the students to be very vocal.

“Now that he has been released, I am concerned on how the campus activities remain…looking at the judgement, Kanhaiya is bound to be little quiet with his politics,” she added.

Some people also reacted over the “song” of a Hindi movie that was quoted by the judge.

“This is the first time we have heard a Hindi song in a judgement. We respect judiciary of our country but it was a completely different thing that a song was quoted to convey the importance of a nation by the judge,” said a PhD student on the condition of anonymity.

Kanhaiya was released after 19 day judicial custody by the High Court on Wednesday. He was booked along with two other students on changes of sedition and criminal conspiracy. Now that he is released, the JNU high-level enquiry will have to recommend in its report whether he, along with seven others, can continue their academic activities or continue to be rusticated.
