Congress on Monday once again dug the already exhausted Bhalswa landfill site citing that it has overgrown its capacity, leading to illness in the areas surrounding Bhalswa in the national Capital. Few days ago, Congress councillors also launched a protest demanding the shift of the landfilled site to another area.
The landfill site has exceeded its capacity to store garbage, which is now spreading diseases across the nearby locales. leader of Opposition Mukesh Goel added that the landfill site has turned into a hillock of garbage, spreading foul smell and making local residents fall prey to illness.
Congress also asked the exact time span in which the landfill will be shifted to another area and in how much time the Bhalwa landfill site will be reclaimed. In 2013, the NDMC promised that the reclamation will take nearly 10 years, but no call has been taken on the new site it will be shifted to.
Goel said that along with him other Congress councillors protested against the Bhalwa landfill site at GT Karnal Road few days ago and did not allow the North DMC vehicles to throw garbage in the site.
The mountain of garbage which contains lethal chemicals is nothing less than a big threat to the lives of lakhs of people living around the site. Years ago, the landfill crossed its designated period and length of garbage storage but being used the Municipal Corporation to dump the waste material. The Residential Welfare Association (RWA) of Bhalswa also has unanimously begun a drive against the garbage dumping point.
