Delhi Metro on Wednesday said it is decorating the Moti Bagh station of the upcoming Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar Metro corridor of Delhi Metro with attractive artwork and displays.
A senior Delhi Metro official said, “The step is being taken in continuation of the Delhi Metro’s efforts to utilise its premises for the promotion of art and culture,”
Talking about the artwork at the under construction Moti Bagh metro station, the official said, “Abstract artworks are being installed on the facades of the Metro station facing the Ring Road and an adjacent flyover. The artworks are conveying the message of greenery and preservation of environment. A specialised team of artists have been roped in to execute the work.”
The piers of the Metro station on the Ring Road are also being decorated with traditional Indian Jali work. The Jali installations will be backlit and will also have night glow vinyl for better aesthetic look and visibility during the night. Through these installations on the piers, an effort has been made to promote ethnic Indian architecture. The artworks are currently being installed at the station and the work is expected to be completed within a week's time.
In addition, the students of a nearby school for girls will also decorate seven piers of the Metro corridor near the station. The themes which will be covered in these artworks will be reverence for life, reverence for the spirit of education, love for nature, character building, spiritual unfolding, love for Indian ideals and living for others,” added the officer.
Apart from the art work at this under construction metro station, artwork was carried out at the recently inaugurated Botanical Garden - Kalkaji Mandir section. Delhi Metro official said that similar efforts will be made in all the corridors which are coming up as part of the third phase of expansion of the Delhi Metro.
In the past also, DMRC has tied up with various government bodies/organizations (National Book Trust, Delhi Tourism, Sahitya Akademy, India Habitat Centre, Ministry of Textiles etc.), schools authorizing them to use the Metro premises in such a way that they are treated as a hub for promotion of Indian Art, Culture, literature, Craft, Tourism etc.
Stations like INA (Art & Craft Gallery), Jorbagh (Painting/Photo Exhibition), Mandi House & ITO (Artwork panels), Kashmiri Gate (Bookshop), Vishwavidyalaya (Bookshop run by National Book Trust) Patel Chowk (Metro Museum) etc. are a testimony to these associations and offer commuters an altogether different experience while travelling by the Metro.
