It was a day of hectic electioneering in the national Capital with a host of political bigwigs from all parties visiting the remotest of localities in Delhi to woo voters for the December 4 Assembly polls. Apart from leaders of the BJP and Congress, BSP supremo Mayawati, Shiromani Akali Dal chief patron and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal too addressed public meetings in various parts of the Capital seeking votes for their candidates. While Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit remained Congress' star campaigner for the day; scores of BJP leaders, including Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Nitin Gadkari, Ravi Shankar Prasad and others, campaigned extensively for the party candidates
The BSP supremo Mayawati held her first rally in the Capital on Thursday in support of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidates for the Delhi Assembly polls. She accused the Congress-led Governments in Delhi as well as at the Centre for poor economic policies, which led to inflation and rampant corruption. The convocation held in MTNl park of Yamuna Vihar area on Thursday was attended by party nominees for all 10 seats falling under the North-East Parliamentary seat. Addressing the groundswell, she also blamed both the Congress and BJP for ignoring dalits, backward classes and other minority sections.
The former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh said that a majority of the people from all castes and communities are forced to live below the poverty line, but neither the Congress nor the BJP have taken appropriate steps to eradicate poverty during their tenure. Both the political parties have always worked for the upper class and for corporate houses, which in turn support these political parties and fund them. “It has been 66 years of Independence, but dalits, backward classes, poor Muslims as well as some belonging to the upper castes are still struggling to make ends meet,” she added.
Attacking the Delhi Government for ignoring the dalits and the backward classes living in the national Capital, Mayawati said that the Sheila Dikshit is directly responsible for the situation and has not done enough for improving the condition. “The Congress is ruling since 15 years in Delhi, but has not ensured growth of the State. If, the BSP comes in power in the State, it will focus on overall development and infrastructural growth,” said the BSP supremo.
The BSP leader said her party will construct flats for people from the weaker sections and will regularise all authorised colonies, if voted to power. The party will ensure safety for women and will demand full Statehood for Delhi. Following the lines of Sarvajan Hitay and Sarvajan Sukhay policy, it will also work for the welfare of migrants, who are living in abysmal condition in the Capital and have been neglected by the Congress party in the last 15 years. Senior leader Nasimuddin Siddiqui and other BSP candidates were also present at the rally.
