In a relief to visitors and tourists coming to Delhi Zoo, the authorities have finally revived battery-operated car service on Thursday. With the rise in temperature this would come as a great respite to the zoo visitors. The trolleys, which were being used by zoo visitors to take round of large campus, have stopped plying four months ago in January following the expiry of contract term of previous contractor. The zoo visitors, particularly senior citizens and parents accompanied with children have been facing difficulties.
“We have introduced 10 trolleys on Thursday. The trolleys got to work as soon as the inauguration was over,” said Rias Khan, the zoo curator.
However, the rates of trolley have increased. Earlier Rs35 was being charged for an adult but now it will cost Rs50 per head. The rates will imply the same for Foreigners. For children below the age of 5 it will be free of cost and above 5 years it will cost Rs25. As for those who wish to hire the trolley they will have to pay Rs600 and school groups will get Rs100 discount.
“The trolley will have five stops and the last stop will be at White Tiger. Main enclosures are like White Tiger, lion, Giraffe, Birds, Rhinoceros, Hippopotamus and Giraffe. The entire route has been planned in a manner that one can see majority of animals” said a Zoo official. GPS and microphones will also be installed within a month, he added.
“GPS will help to monitor the movement of the vehicle and through microphones, the guest would be told about the animals,” he said. “It’s a relief that these trolleys are back as last month my visit here was very hectic and I could not visit all the enclosures. The zoo being a big place to visit one cannot think of roaming or walking in such an extreme weather,” said Zenia Khurshid, a visitor.
