Banks told to deploy guards at Gurgaon ATMs

Taking a lesson from the Bangalore ATM incident in which a woman was brutally attacked, the district administration of Gurgaon on Wednesday has invoked Section 144 CrPC and directed managers of all banks operating ATMs in the city to install better quality CCTV cameras with proper lighting and deploy security guards at all the ATMs within 15 days.

Deputy Commissioner of Gurgaon Shekhar Vidyarthi said that the CCTV camera should have a backup of at least one month and the security guards should be deployed round-the-clock. “Action will be initiated against the violators of this order under Section 188 IPC. We have issued the order after noticing that the city’s ATM booths lack adequate CCTV cameras and security guards,” said Vidyarthi.

There are more than 500 ATMs of various banks in Gurgaon. “CCTV cameras should be installed both inside and outside of the ATMs with proper lighting. Adequate number of security guards should also be deployed so that in case of any mishap, the criminals can be caught by the  guards and also can be traced or detected easily with the help of CCTV footage,” he added.

Meanwhile, Police Commissioner of Gurgaon Alok Mittal said that all the local beat officers and SHOs were directed to monitor ATMs that fall under their jurisdictions.
