All banks in the city will remain closed for next three days for holidays lined up from Saturday.
The holidays start from December, 10 (second Saturday), December, 11 (Sunday) and December 12 ( Eid Milad-ul-Nabi). Considering the extended weekend, people on Friday rushed to banks to get some cash.
Huge rush is expected on Tuesday after opening up banks.
Modi had set 50 days’ deadline to bring the situation under control. However, even after the passing of one month after the its declaration, long serpentine queues and cash strapped people are a stillcommon sight resulting from demonetisation.
At this point the three daylong bank closure would add to the further inconvinience of the the people.
“We are already facing hardship to get cash from the banks and ATMs. These three days going to be difficult for the common man,” said Rahul Manchanda, an employee with a private company.
While a senior SBI bank official said the bank would start its normal functions from December 13, ATMs will be replenished by cash so nothing to panic. People may face hardship in case ATMs run out of cash.
