A man, who had worked as a Balaji Telefilms crew member, has been arrested for allegedly duping a Tamil Nadu -based engineer of Rs 62,000 after luring him with a job offer in Canada by posting an advertisement on www.olx.in.
"The accused, Surinder Singh (30), is a resident of Barnala in Punjab. He was arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police from near Hyatt Regency Hotel. Police recovered four passports, a laptop and five mobile phones from his possession, along with a fake visa and an offer letter for a job in Toronto, Canada. Shameer Jan, a Tamil Nadu-based engineer reported that he was in search of a job abroad and was cheated of Rs 62,000 by Surinder Singh, who had advertised a job under the title of 'Jobs in Canada'. Jan told police that Singh had offered him a job in Hilton Garden Inn in Toronto at a handsome salary of 2,000 Canadian dollars per month and sent him a scanned copy of a fake offer letter embossed with Canadian Visa.
Singh further asked Jan to pay 1,000 Canadian dollars to him at New Delhi Railway Station. At this point, the complainant became suspicious and verified the Visa from the Canadian Embassy in New Delhi, which was found to be fake. Jan then filed a case of cheating and forgery against Singh, who was later arrested.
