lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday chaired a law and order review meeting in which he reviewed actions taken by the Delhi Police to prevent non-heinous crimes like snatching, pick-pocketing, etc.
Baijal asked the Delhi Police to conduct an objective analysis of the causes and effects of any increase in incidences of non-heinous crimes in particular localities so that an effective strategy could be evolved to check them promptly. He also directed senior police officials to increase visibility of police personnel on roads. He stressed that the targeted patrolling should be increased in areas as identified crime hotspots.
The l-G also advised the police top brass to explore facilitating online registration of all non-heinous crimes as far as possible. "This would not only facilitate speedy registration but also make it easier for police to examine and analyse various facts of these crimes," he said.
The Transport Department was also directed to explore the possibility of having Himmat Plus App as a mandatory licensing condition for TSR/Taxi as this would bring in much-needed synergy in the efforts to promote women safety.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary (Home), Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Special CPs, Joint CPs and Commissioner (Transport).
The Delhi Police informed the l-G about the present status and current trends of non-heinous crimes such as snatching, picks pocketing, MV Theft etc. in Delhi. Police also apprised him about their strategy to control non-heinous crimes which focuses on identification of crime hot spots, crackdown on criminals, focus on beat policing, high visibility professionalism, enhancing community participation etc.
Baijal was also informed about multi-pronged approach taken by the Delhi Police to effectively check non-heinous crimes including steps such as installation of CCTVs in buses and at public places; improvement of last mile connectivity from metro stations; initiating programmes for awareness and education; suitable action for lighting identified darks stretches etc.
