lieutenant- Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday reviewed the mobile and Web Applications for First Information Report (FIR) of motor vehicle theft and other property theft cases during the fortnightly crime review meeting with the Delhi Police top brass.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary, Delhi Commissioner of Police, Special Commissioner (Transport), Delhi Government, Special CPs and Joint CPs and officers of Raj Niwas.
The l-G was informed that the objective of the new apps was immediate online lodging/downloading of FIR for the property stolen in Delhi through the Web or mobiles.
This will help the Investigating Officer (IO) in timely documentation and aid in completing investigation steps, which will result in early disposal of cases to reduce pendency in police stations and courts.
These apps are citizen-friendly as people need not visit the police station to lodge an FIR nor wait to receive a copy.
Special CP law and Order also informed the l-G about other preventive measures such as group patrolling by District DCPs and Additional DCPs. Emphasis on Beat Patrolling System, enhanced police presence and patrolling identification of vulnerable areas based on crime pattern in each police station was discussed in the meeting.
The Special CP further emphasised on quicker reaction time through increased police presence in the area, gathering of macro-Intelligence by district police, as closer surveillance on known-criminals, follow up of activities of criminals coming out of jail after conviction or release on bail, public participation to control crime through schemes like ‘Eyes and Ears’ Scheme, which help in reducing motor vehicle theft and other thefts.
