The extension of Metro rail in the city which is one of the longest pending projects of the district, was discussed at a meeting between Badshahpur MLA Rakesh Daultabad and senior officials of Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited (HMRTC) in Chandigarh on Wednesday.
Daultabad said that the proposed route of the Metro line was discussed at the meeting and has suggested the appointment of an internal consultant.
“The interim consultant will identify the project work for the proposed route such as acquisition of land, removal of encroachments and shifting of utilities can be carried out.
"Also, I will take up the matter before the chief minister Manohar Lal Khattarhe for cabinet approval. Following which it will be sent to the Union urban development ministry for the final approval,” Daultabad said.
Daultabad further said that Metro Extension project which awaits cabinet approval runs from HUDA City Centre to Subhash Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Sector-9, Sector-10, Sector-4-5 Chowk, RezangLa Chowk, Udyog Vihar to Rapid Metro in DLF cyber city. This project is like a circular City metro.
“Two more projects which I had discussed are RezangLa Chowk to Dwarka Sector-21, and Gurugram Railway Station to Vatika Chowk. These two projects are in the early proposal stage for which presentations shall be conducted at the Chief Secretary level,” he said.
The MLA added that approvals from the home ministry, railway ministry and Planning Commission are also required.
It is pertinent to mention that, whereas Delhi and Noida have managed to rapidly expand their metro network, the Gurugram district hasn’t been able to go beyond the Huda City Centre metro station since 2009.
Meanwhile on the other hand many changes have come in the project DPR over the past several months. HMRTC first extended the metro route from Sector-9A towards Dwarka Expressway. Then it was decided to extend the metro line from Sector-23 to Cyber city via Udyog Vihar.
“One presentation in this regard had already been given to the chief minister and next week the same would be presented before top government officials, “ he said.
“Soon the consultants for this project would give a presentation for the extension of the route from Palam Vihar to Dwarka before senior government officials. We will take up this project with the central government at all possible aspects so that metro can be extended in the city at the earliest” Daultabad added.
