The fully elevated 14 km-long Badarpur-Faridabad corridor of the Delhi Metro would soon be operational as the DMRC is planning an early opening of the corridor, after which people can easily commute between Delhi and the satellite town of Faridabad. According to DMRC officials, if all goes well, the Badarpur-Escorts Mujesar stretch of the Violet line may be made operational by the end of this month itself.
The stretch, which was supposed to be completed by May 2015, was finished ahead of schedule and the trial runs were being conducted on the same for over a month. According to sources in the DMRC, the trial runs have been promising and Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) may be invited to conduct the inspection in the next few days. If all goes well, this new extension of the Violet line may be made operational by the end of June.
The Violet line between Mandi House and Badarpur was recently extended with the opening of the ITO Metro station on June 8. Now the same line is set to be extended on the other side with the opening of nine new stations. Recently, Haryana Cabinet had approved the extension of this line from Escorts Mujesar till Ballabhgarh.
With the operationalisation of the Badarpur-Escorts Mujesar corridor, DMRC is looking at removing 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh vehicles from the road.A DMRC official said that the trial-runs on the Faridabad-Badarpur corridor have been going smoothly on for over a month and DMRC is satisfied with the results. All that is now needed to make the stretch operational is a green signal from the CMRS. The official added that an invitation to the CMRS will be sent in a few days to conduct the inspection of the track. And after the green light is received from the CMRS, the corridor from Badarpur to the Escorts Mujesar will be opened.
This line, with extended route length of about 14 kms and nine new stations, is an extension of the Violet line currently operational between ITO and Badarpur. Once fully operational, it will be running from Kashmere Gate to Ballabhgarh spanning across a length of around 45 kms with 34 Metro stations. All the nine stations on the new stretch are elevated and have foot-over bridges on each of them for the commuters. The line is supposed to be extended till Kashmere Gate by next year.
