Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has assured the family of the missing Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Najeeb Ahmad to raise the issue in the on-going Parliament session. The leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha met Ahmad’s mother Fatima Nafees and brother Mujeeb on Friday. It has been 33 days since Najeeb went missing and he is yet to be traced by the Delhi Police.
"We had gone to meet the Congress leader to seek help in finding Najeeb...he assured that the issue will be raised in the Parliament and lay emphasis on taking strong measures to find him," a family member told The Pioneer.
On Wednesday, Delhi Police Crime Branch had said they "traced the auto driver who had seen Ahmad the last time on the day when he went missing and also interrogated him. However, Ahmad's family refused to believe claims of the Delhi Police that the stood took an auto to reach Jamia Millia Islamia's main gate. The family has "refused to buy" any such claim and called it "hot air."
"They have failed to trace Ahmad ...now they are only giving false leads like he was spotted in Darbhanga and now Jamia," said Najeeb's cousin, Sadaf Mussharaf who lives in Zakir Nagar in Okhla.
"Everyone in Jamia knows us and also about the case. Had Ahmad been in this area, he would have been reported to the family long back", said Ahmad's mother.
Musharraf, who has been by her aunt Nafees' side, stressed that the Delhi Police has "not taken the necessary steps like collecting evidence from Maha Mandavi hostel after Ahmad went missing."
While she accused police of "misleading" Ahmad's mother at the time of writing the FIR, she reiterated the "dissatisfaction over police inaccessibility to search for Ahmad inside JNU campus".
