Autos to be colour coded based on 11 zones

The transport department on Wednesday increased the number of zones for colour coding of autorickshaws from six to 11. As part of the plan, the areas in Delhi have been segregated into separate zones and colour strips on autos will be placed according to the areas they belong to. The plan, once implemented, will come to the aid of commuters who are dependent on autos for commuting and have to face the perennial problem of refusals, especially during night hours.

During a review meeting, presided over by Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami, it was decided that the number of zones for implementation of colour coding of autorickshaws be revised to 11 instead of the earlier six. “The autos will be colour coded according to the zone they hail from. Once implemented, the autos won’t be able to refuse passengers,” said Goswami.

He added that a mechanism will be evolved to curb overcharging by the autos. “For safety of passengers and complaints of overcharging and misbehaviour against autorickshaw drivers, the department has decided to use the services of the Delhi Traffic Police, Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System (DIMTS) and the Police Control Room to evolve a mechanism. There is also provision for providing various helpline numbers on the autorickshaw itself,” he added.
