The 27-year-old son of the managing director of a famous automobile company in Punjab has been arrested by Delhi Police on the charges of raping the producer of a Hindi News channel. The accused had raped her repeatedly on the pretext of marrying her but later backed out. A case in this regard was registered at Vasant Vihar police station on March 9 this year on the complaint of the 37-year-old victim. The accused Harkirat was evading arrest and allegedly tried to force the victim to take her complaint back, the police said.

According to the complaint, the victim said she met Harkirat during a television show, last year. Soon after they became friends on social media and started chatting. “On September 1, 2014 Harkirat called her to meet him at a massage parlor where he raped her after offering chocolate laced with sedatives. Thereafter, he raped her at Manesar, Haryana and Jaipur, Rajasthan on the promise of marrying her,” the complainant told police.

“She said, he stopped talking to her after sometime and threatened her of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone. Then she approached police and lodged a case,” said a police officer.

A case of rape was registered after the medical examination was conducted on her. Police said the accused was evading his arrest but they managed to track him down on Saturday from ludhiana. His father is a managing director of an automobile company in Punjab.

Sources said the complainant also told police that Harkirat’s father was forcing her to take her complaint back. She also said a social activist who was helping the woman in following the case was also threatened by Harkirat’s father. Police said they have received a complaint in this regard and are verifying the allegations.
