Cross with app-based cab and auto services in the city, Auto Taxi Bachao Manch on Wednesday demanded the AAP Government and the Delhi Police to take strict action against app-based cab aggregators for “violating” the Motor Vehicle Act. They feel that app-based taxis and autos are eating away the livelihood of kali-peeli taxi and auto rickshaw drivers.
“The app-based cab aggregators are not only violating the relevant rules including MV Act provisions, they are also affecting employment of autos and taxis plying in the city,” said Rakesh Agarwal, a leader of the Manch.
Auto Taxi Bachao Manch organised a protest at KG Marg around 1 pm on Wednesday to highlight the issue.
According to Sanjay Chawla, spokesperson of the organisation, app-based services are damaging their business and most of them are plying without licences.
“Their main contention is that app-based taxi and auto services are running illegally for which they should pay a hefty sum of Rs91,000 crore. The figure is calculated for the duration they have been running and the number of customers they have shuttled,” he said.
Naina Samant, a regular Uber user, however, feels that app-based services are much convenient and reasonable for the comfort they provide.
