The Delhi Police has arrested an auto-rickshaw driver for allegedly molesting a 22-year-old woman in northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area. Police said the incident occurred on December 2.
The accused has been identified as Bhanu (45). Police said the accused had fled with the woman’s mobile phone.
According to Vijayanta Arya, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North West district, in her complaint, the woman, a resident of northeast Delhi’s Gokulpuri, stated that at 10 pm on December 2, she hired an auto-rickshaw from Rajendra Place.
“On the way, the driver stopped the auto at an isolated location and tried to molest her. When the woman resisted, the driver fled with her mobile phone,” said the DCP adding that a First Information Report was registered at the Mukherjee Nagar police station and investigation was taken up.
“The accused was arrested after receiving a tip-off. The victim’s mobile phone has been recovered from the possession of the accused,” said the DCP adding that further investigation is going on.
