After facing resistance during robbery, unidentified assailants slit the tongue of an auto driver in the Kasna area of Greater Noida on Wednesday night. The police say that the auto rickshaw driver was robbed of Rs20,000 and claim that he injured his tongue during the scuffle. Meanwhile, his family claims that the police are trying to hush up the matter.
The victim was identified by the police as Raju (40), who hails from Bulandshahr and has been living in Kasna area in Greater Noida. The incident took place at around 11.30 pm on Wednesday night.
The victim’s brother Bablu said, “Raju was bringing Rs 20,000 to give it to a relative. As he was near his house, suddenly around four-five assailants forcefully stopped him. They snatched the bag containing money. When he shouted for help, assailants slit his tongue with a sharp weapon. Assailants immediately fled the spot and Raju was taken to hospital.”
Doctors at Kailash Hospital said that almost one third of his tongue is amputated. “We have stitched his tongue. But he needs to take precaution and it will take a month for him to recover,” said the doctor.
Meanwhile, Noida police claim that they have registered the FIR and have started the investigation but deny that the victim’s tongue was slit by the assailants. “Victim had a fight with some locals and he was pushed due to which he has injuries in his tongue,” said the officer investigating the case. But family member of victim claims that police are taking the case lightly and trying to hush up the matter.
