At odds over Rs 140, game of cards kills 24-year-old

The cards were stacked against a 24-year-old man murdered by his mates over a dispute on a paltry Rs 140, when they were hedging bets in North Delhi’s Sabzi Mandi area on Sunday night. Identified as Govind, the victim was stabbed multiple times. The accused, identified as Pawan, has been arrested.

Govind worked as a labourer and was celebrating Diwali with his friends over a few drinks and a game of cards. During the game, an argument broke out between Pawan and Govind over a sum of Rs 140. “The argument went on and even though others tried to intervene, the two could not be calmed down. Pawan immediately took out a kitchen knife and stabbed Govind to death. Pawan fled from the scene, but was later arrested,” said a police official.
