At long last, some 'relief' on day 8

As demonetisation policy entered its 8th day, cash crunch still continues in Connaught Place, heart of the Capital. Unlike, chaotic scenario of early seven days, well organised banking systems and arrangements were seen on Wednesday. However, long queues were witnessed in front of banks like HDFC, State bank of India, Oriental Bank of Commerce and Punjab National Bank.

To deal with the rush and scuffle, security official were deployed for proper surveillance and more counters were opened for smooth functioning of banks. A security personnel, who came to exchange money in Punjab National Bank said, “I am left with no other option than spending my whole day in long queues to collect money. After all I can concentrate on my job only when my family members do not strive out of cash crisis.”

However, some people were complaining against continuous tea breaks taken by bank officials, who are responsible for cash collection and exchange of notes.

Kawal Kumar, a vendor, who was waiting for his turn said, “The daily wage earners are the worst affected of the demonitised notes of  500 and  1,000. We are struggling to get our own hard-owned money.”

Some people were even seen queuing to exchange the newly introduced  2,000 notes. “ 2,000 seems valueless, unless the circulation of  500 has a positive-market flow. I am cashless even by having this new  2,000 note,” said Manju, who runs a cosmetic shop.
