The Delhi Police Commissioner, Rakesh Asthana on Sunday launched an e-learning program “Unnati” in Delhi’s Southwest district. Police said that under the flagship scheme YUVA, the Unnati initiative will help the youth, specifically from weaker sections of the society and school dropouts, to get education, skills and realise their dreams to secure their future.

Speaking on the occasion, Asthana hailed “Unnati” as an effective initiative to strengthen the chord of togetherness with society. The CP emphasised that every year over 1.5 lakhs persons are arrested by Delhi Police for various crimes and more than 85 percent of the arrested persons are first timers, while only 10-15 per cent are repeat offenders.

“Community policing initiatives like YUVA and Unnati target that these 85 per cent do not fall in the web of crime and they get a chance to take a fresh shot at life and join the mainstream as builders of society,” said the CP.

During the occasion, the CP also felicitated YUVA trainees who have got jobs and are supporting their family livelihood.

He said he had gone through the profiles of YUVA trainees felicitated today and he was deeply touched by their dedication to overcome the odds which were against them.

“Although police work is about containing and solving crime, however at any given moment a policeman is providing selfless service to the general public especially from weaker sections of society,” said the CP.

Asthana also advised the youngsters among the audience to stay away from drugs, which are the root cause of most crimes. “This Unnati scheme would be replicated in other districts of Delhi under PPP model and with the help of YUVA stakeholders,” Asthana added.

Chinmoy Biswal, the spokesperson of Delhi Police said that “Unnati” portal has been designed in a very simple way and anyone can learn from anywhere through a laptop, desktop, tablet or simply a mobile phone.

“It provides training and side-by-side placement to trainees. The features of this platform comprise counseling, training and placement. It is an effective open learning system and live online classes are the speciality of this program,” said the spokesperson.

“On the successful completion of the e-Learning course, a certificate is awarded which helps the holder in getting placement.
