Assembly polls: Albatross around parties' necks

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit recounts the various developments led by her Government as the Assembly polls near. She also hits out at the Opposition for hoodwinking people over developmental issues. Dikshit accused the BJP of disturbing the peace and tranquility to fulfil their political motives.

“Our Government has ensured harmony during the last 15 years in the Capital and no riots have taken place since then. The Opposition is taking recourse to mutiny to capture power as they have become impatient in the Opposition’s bench. They have no agenda but to disturb the peace and tranquility to fulfil their political purpose,” she said at a function organised to inaugurate a Basti Vikas Kendra and laid the foundation stone of another Basti Vikas Kendra at Chanderpuri near Old Seelampur.

“Our Government has been taking care of the poor and vulnerable sections of society whereas the Opposition is working overtime to delude them through false promises and propaganda,” she added.

The Basti Vikas Kendras, similar to community centres, are being constructed and maintained by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB). The Kendras have been providing place for social functions, including weddings. Dikshit also opened a Basti Vikas Kendra constructed over an area of 1,344 sq. metre and at the cost of Rs 61 lakh. She also laid the foundation stone of another Kendra that would be built at an estimated cost of Rs 28 lakh within six months. Delhi UD Minister Arvinder Singh, East Delhi MP Sandeep Dikshit, CEO (DUSIB) Amar Nath and others were also present.

The CM also inaugurated a community centre at New Seemapuri. Dikshit said her Government has been taking steps to provide relief to the deprived and the residents of under-developed colonies by implementing various welfare schemes. “The Government spends more than 65 per cent of its allocation on the social sector.  The Government would ensure the Right to Food in respect of 73 lakh persons in the Capital. Many eligible persons have been submitting applications for National Food Security Cards which would enable them to get foodgrains at highly subsidised rates,” Dikshit said.
