The incident of an orthopedic doctor at Deen Dayal Upadhaya Hospital hitting a patient, who had gone for treatment of his fractured leg, sparked a protest on Monday leading to halt in medical services in the hospital for a few hours as the patient’s ear drum was damaged.

The patient’s family protested outside the hospital demanding action against the doctor.

Dr Savita Babbar, Medical Superintendent of DDU, said, “ We have sent an approval to Health Secretary and Health Minister for the four member enquiry committee  to review the matter and meeting is still going on.”

Patient’s father Narender Singh, who hails from Subhash Nagar in West Delhi, said after his son Avatar Singh, 28, met with an accident on Sunday evening when his motorbike got slipped he was rushed to the DDU hospital.

“For the past one hour, no treatment was given to my child. We did not say anything. We waited for the doctor to come. Due to the fractured leg Avtaar was sitting on the floor, with his leg stretched. An orthopedic doctor passing by his side hit his leg to which my son just asked him to be careful. The doctor lost his cool and hit my son so badly that his ear drum got damaged,” said Narender.

Patient’s father alleged that the doctor snatched his son’s phone and during the incident none of the hospital staff came to his rescue. “Now, I have taken my child to Shri Balaji Action Medical Institute, as I cannot trust doctors here.”
