"Such weather conditions were last experienced in May 2013 when maximum temperature fluctuated between 46.3 and 47.2 degrees Celsius, however, today's recorded temperature can be marked as season's highest,  Dr Jenamani said.

According to Private Weather Forecast company heatwave conditions have now gripped the national Capital for the first time in this season.

"Heatwave conditions are declared when the normal maximum temperature for any city stands at or over 40 degrees Celsius and is above normal by five degrees," Skymet updated.

"According to weathermen at Skymet Weather, mercury may increase further in the next 24-48 hours, bringing in no respite from extremely hot weather conditions. In fact, people are advised to stay hydrated and avoid from venturing out in the noon hours. With scorching heat, the threat of heat stroke looms large, particularly for elderly and children," Skymet further updated in forecast.

Explaining the impact of such high temperature on  Airport  Operations, Dr Jenamani said cargo flights normally gets  affected due to such high temperature in afternoon time and today during 1.30 pm to 5 pm temperature was 45-46 degrees Celsius at RWY(the RWY highest day temperature is always 1-3 degrees celsius higher than our ATC observatory campus maximum day temp).

"The air is too hot and very less dense to provide lift that normally they get in case they operate at morning or late evening/night operations by when RWY gets cool down trend," he added.
