A young man stole a 56-year old bank employee’s mobile phone from right under her nose in full public view in South Delhi’s upscale Green Park area. Police continue to be nonplussed even though the youth, in his 20s, is clearly distinct in the bank’s security footage.
The episode took place on Tuesday at 1.53 pm in Syndicate Bank’s Green Park branch. Anju Gupta, a clerk at the bank, was feeling under the weather. Since there were no patrons at her counter, she decided to catch 40 winks. Two minutes later when she woke up, her cell phone was missing. “On checking the bank’s security footage, a youth clad in a green coloured shirt was seen pinching the phone,” said Gupta. The security footage shows the youth ambling into the bank and out of it without raising an eyebrow. The armed guard positioned at the entrance remains oblivious. Gupta has registered an FIR at Safdarjung police station and handed over the security footage to the cops. “We have submitted the snapshots of the CCTV footage to the police wherein the robber is clearly seen. We have not heard anything from the police so far,” said Aditi, the victim’s daughter.
