From Government officers to students, the art exhibition at Janpath Subway, Outer Circle, Connaught Place organised by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has given space to 36 contemporary artists to showcase their talent for free. The art exhibition containing over 130 paintings and sculptures has been organised as a part of their beautification plans. “There are several artists in the city who cannot afford exhibiting their art pieces in big galleries, so, a place has been given to them here for free,” said a senior NDMC official.
According to the officials apart from that, there are two more reasons behind organising the exhibition.
“Under NDMC Act, we are privileged to promote Art and Culture. So, this effort has been made to bring the art from the living rooms of the artists into the public domain,” the official said. The exhibition has also been organized to promote beautification and cleanliness, he said.
As many as 120 paintings and 10 sculptures of 36 contemporary artists and art students across the city have participated in the exhibition.
Among various artists Chaitanya Jaipura, a student of art has also participated. Highlighting the theme of his painting he said, “My painting is a contrast between happiness and destitute. The old man in my painting is in rags but is still happy.” It took him a week to make the charcoal painting, he said.
Similarly, Kiran Soni Gupta, a senior government official has displayed five landscape paintings. She has prepared some of the paintings taking two months, she said.
The exhibition is a part of the forthcoming Swachh Survekshan 2019. Inaugurated on Friday, the exhibition will end on January 12, 2019, the official added.
